The jay of not running a car
THE arguments that Desmond Albrow presented (Oct. 23) against the use of the motor car are so overwhelming that it is amazing that people do not refuse to use cars. They are, of course. a personal convenience. but the greatest reason why people possess and use cars is because of social pressures.
To go against the main stream requires courage but, having recently rid myself of the motor, I wonder why I was so afraid to take such a step and commit myself. Life is so much more pleasant and the greatest relief is to he rid of the anxiety that car-driving involves.
C. J. Weeks DESMOND ALBROW'S comments on the morality of motoring are timely but, judging from his closing lines to do without the car would he inconvenient.
We have recently sold our car after a period of increasing doubt about the morality of running it. What we thought would he a sacrifice is proving a source of new pleasures.
There is no real clash between what is right and joy in life.

IAM one among the many 2Catholics who are distressed to see priests wearing lay dress. The priestly uniform is the most distinguishing one in the world. It is the outward sign of a man who has devoted his life to God, and it brings our reverence with it.
I was not sorry to see, according to Desmond Alhrow's Column, Oct. 23, that El Vino refused Fr. Stock a drink -1 feel sure he would have been served courteously if he had been correctly dressed — as a priest.
