THE National Children's Home has relaunched its advice leaflet Tips for Young Parents which was published last year as part of the NCH Children in Danger Campaign. The leaflet is obtainable from NCH, 85, Highbury Park, London N5.
PUPILS of the Holy Child School, Edgbaston, Birmingham last Thursday met Archbishop Couve de Murville when he celebrated Mass there. This was the first time he had visited the school since a lay management team took over the school from the Society of the Holy Child Jesus which is now under the leadership of its first lay head, Miss Jean Johnson.
A SPECIAL Choral Evensong will be held in Westminster Abbey at 5pm on Tuesday October 6 to commemorate the Quatercentenary of the death of Mary Queen of Scots, and her reburial on October 7 1612 in Westminster Abbey. The event has been arranged by the Dean of Westminster in co-operation with the Ecumenical Affairs Department of the British Council of Churches.
THE NATIONAL Board of Catholic Women, who in 1988 celebrate 50 years of representing women's views in the Church, are inviting young women aged between 16 and 19 years to write an essay on "Women in the Church: AD 2000". The winner, who the board says will represent the average Catholic woman by the year 2000, will receive a prize of £100.
CHURCH leaders in Wales are launching a campaign to make religious education compulsory in school. The Governing Body of the Church in Wales says that the Government's argument that religious education in schools is safe-guarded by the 1944 Education Act is unfounded. Representations will now be made to the Government in response to the previously launched consultative document on the national curriculum.
CHRISTIANS from north and south will meet in Sheffield from October 2-4 in an attempt to heal the north-south divide. A conference arranged by the Christians Unemployment Group for South Yorkshire will look at the effects of unemployment on individuals, families and communities.
SWANWICK Conference Centre will be busy again from October 5 7 as 120 delegates representing 14,000 members of the Union of Catholic mothers meet to elect a new National President and two National VicePresidents.Other issues under discussion will be the child abuse seminars being arranged by various UCM Welfare Officers, media awareness and school worship.
LORD Mowbray, possessor of one of the oldest titles in England, will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the English Catholic Ancestor this weekend. It is a growing society which currently boasts over 500 members, and will hold its gathering at Farm Street on Saturday, October 3.
