1) THE BISHOPS' Li CHALLENGE

In Germany I naturally asked for information about Catholic resistance to National Socialism timing the wai. Several Bishops replied in much the same terms: " Why do you come to us '? It is a wellknown fact that trained Nazi observers from all parts of Germany sent Hirnmler regular reports which provided hint with a reliable picture of opinion throughout Germany'at all stages of the war. Many of these reports must have fallen into Russian hands in Berlin. Dther documents must now be in the possession of the British and Americans. Why not publish them ?"
Many of the German Bishops have been bombed out, not once but several times. As a result, they have lost many valuable documents. Even so, sufficient remain to prove that the Church did not connive at the attempt to set op a Nazi domination over Europe, When the Catholic press is restored in Germany, many of these documents will doubtless be published.
1 was able, howevet, to collect a good deal of information on the persecution of Cathotics by the Nazis and on The measures devised by the clergy to prevent the Nazification of Catholic youth. ,
