The Catholic and Anglican bishops in Britain should get together for a formal consultation to help bring the two Churches closer together, the Church of England General Synod was told last week.
The idea was introduced on Thursday by Dr Eric Kemp, Anglican Bishop of Chichester.
He said that there was widespread agreement that "nothing would really happen on the ground until the bishops of the two Churches came not only to know one another personally but to consult together regularly".
He urged dioceses to follow the example of London and Westminster, who had made a start in this. He went on: "A meeting also of bishops at the national level is long overdue."
