Ely Place centenary service

BISHOP GUAZZELLI, Auxiliary of Westminster, led 15 priests in concelebrating Mass at the medieval Church of St Etheldreda's, Ely Place, London, on Saturday to maek the centenary of its return to Catholic worship.
He was assisted by the Rector of St Etheldreda's, Fr Francis O'Malley; Fr Christopher Cunningham and Fr Anthony Meredith. Concelebrants also included other members of the Institute of Charity Rosminians the order which runs the St Etheldreda parish and priests from neighbouring churches in the Westminster diocese.
In the commemorative sermon Fr Jean Charles-Roux reminded the 100-strong congregation that the Ely Chapel, as St Etheldreda's has been known for most of its history, had even during postReformation times kept some sort of Catholic link.
He ended his sermon with the thought that perhaps one day St Etheldreda's would see a consumation of its Catholic links in Post-Reformation times with the Archbishop of Westminster and the Archbishop of Canterbury both making their first Communion in the Universal Church.
Bishop Guaxzelli ended the service with a special prayer for religious vocations, and stood at the church porch greeting every worshipper personally.
