Don't take from M.o.H. moral guide
A "DOUBLE STANDARD" of rimorals is becoming more and more obvious in this country. Bishop Heenan told the Guild of Catholic Professional Social Workers at their annual meeting in Sheffield on Saturday.
-The double standard is the Catholic way of looking at morals and the other way," said the Bishop. "The Church stands rigidly atone on what is and what is not ethical, regardless of what is said to be 'progressive.'"
As Catholic social workers, he warned them, they must not take their guidance on morals from the Ministry of Health or the local council. They will often find their life hard and lonely because of their principles.
"You will be accused of being narrow minded, reactionary and anti-social.
"But on the day when the State declares what is the moral law, it will he a very sad day for the poor, sick and old."
Held for the first time in the Leeds diocese, the meeting was combined with a study week-end. Members came from as far as London and Carlisle. They included nuns, almoners, health visitors. probation officers and a psychologist.
The retiring secretary, Miss S. C. Nairn, reported that they now have 200 members.

MAD ABOUT MEN Leicester Square Theatre Certificate U Director: Ralph Thomas
"xn IRANDA the Mermaid" was
INSI evidently such a success that it has been worth a sequel. So here once again is Glynis Johns swishing her scaly tail, coming on land for a fortnight's concentrated dalliance with men she loves so much to kiss. And what a lot of kissing there is !
By this time the cinematic joke may have worn a bit thin, but a little salt has been added by the presence of another, rather raffish, mermaid in the person of Dora Bryan, who has a habit of helping herself to anything in the way of ladies' wear left on the shore.
Glynis Johns plays the dual role of the mermaid and her human counterpart, and, as mermaid, gets back to sea just before an icthyologist is about to put her in a tank.
