Findings And Recommendations Of Legal Catholic Campaign Triu•mphantly indicated
PARENTS' LETTERS DECLARED GENUINE
THE FIRST IMPARTIAL TRIBUNAL TO ENQUIRE INTO THE QUESTION OF THE BASQUE CHILDREN HAS TRIUMPHANTLY VINDICATED ALL THAT THE CATHOLIC HERALD HAS STOOD FOR.
THE LEGAL COMMISSION, COMPOSED OF SIR HOLMAN GREGORY, EX-RECORDER OF LONDON, MR. THEOBALD MATHEW AND MR. RICHARD it LUDLOW HAS EXAMINED THE APPLICATIONS FROM BASQUE PARENTS FOR THE RETURN OF THEIR CHILDREN AND HEARD EVIDENCE FROM ALL SIDES.
F1' HAS ISSUED ITS FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
FINDINGS :
1. Children were removed with consent of parents.
2. No risk of war today in and around Bilbao.
3. Nationalist Government willing to receive children.
4. The Apostolic Delegate is in favour of repatriation.
5. All letters brought by Fr. Gabana and forwarded by the Apostolic Delegate are genuine.
RECOMMENDATIONS :
1. All the Spanish children now in Great Britain to be returned as soon as can be arranged.
2. Various committees and authorities should agree as to order of repatriation.
3. That 500 children should be embarked at the earliest possible date.
5. That Fr. Gabana, a Doctor and a Superintendent should accompany them and consult with the representatives of the National Government and the Apostolic Delegate about the order and names of further children to be repatriated.
