SPUC call to join lobby on abortion

SPUC, the Society (or the Protection of the Unborn Child, hopes that 10,000 people will join in lobbying their MPs on May 17. The protesters will demand that the Government allows adequate time for the abortion issue to be debated in the House of Commons.
Lobbyists will converge on London from all parts of the country. Special trains have been arranged from Liverpool, Manchester and Scotland..
The Methodist Central Hall in Westminster has been booked for the day, and there will be a continuous programme of speakers supporting the Abortion Amendment Bill which has already been given its second reading and now awaits committee time.
Mrs Phyllis Bowman, the director of SPUC, commented: "People are becoming heartily
sick of the sham tactics of the Government which, while claiming that abortion is not a party issue but a matter of private conscience, has used one unscrupulous means after another during the past three years to prevent it being fully debated in the House."
