LONDON'S FIRST CATHOLIC WORKER BOOKSHOP Run by Workers for Workers
Some time ago a cotrespondence arose in the CAI tiOLIL FiEltALD on the so-called " Workeis' Bookshops ' run by the Isere As a result of this correspondence London's first Catholic Worker Bookshop is now open at 33, Willowbrook Road, S.E.I5.
The premises contain in addition to the bookshop, a reading room where the current Catholic literature can be read in peace. There is also a 2d. per book per week lending library which is affiliated to the Catholic Central Library at Victoria, the necessary subscription having been donated by some members of the Central Library Council, and, in addition, gifts of books, a contribution towards shop rent, and other help.
Employment Advisory Bureau It is planned to open an employment and advisory bureau shortly and to develop the shop into a House of Hospitality as at Wigan.
A study circle will be held on the prernises under the direction of Fr. Fidelis, 0.S.F.C., on Monday. May 2, at 8 p.m., and thereafter on alternate Mondays.
This bookshop is run for ttte workers by the workers. "The first apostles of the workers must be the workers," the Pope has said. The rent and other expenses are met by contributions of 61. a week from
members. More of these members are needed if the shop is to develop as it should.
All London Catholics are invited ro visit the shop, which at present will he open front 6,30 p.m. till 9.30 p.m.
