Cardinal blesses charity to help trafficked women
CARDINAL Cormac MurphyO’Connor has performed a blessing at the opening of a charity set up to help trafficked women.
Women@thewell will establish drop-in centres at Soho and King’s Cross in London to provide support to women who have been trafficked into Britain and forced into prostitution. It has been set up by the Sisters of Mercy and its opening cere mony took place on September 24, exactly 180 years after the first House of Mercy was opened in Dublin by Catherine McAuley, who founded the congregation.
The Cardinal said: “I am very pleased to bless and give my support to this innovative initiative to provide support for women who are caught up in and exploited through their involvement in prostitution.”
