VATICAN CITY PRIVATE AUDIENCES, The Holy Father has received in private audience recently, Cardinals Francesco Mao maggi, Giovanni Mercati, Fumasoni Biondi, Marchetti Selvaggiani, Maurilio Fossati, Archbishop of Turin; Mgr. Perier, Archbishop of Calcutta; Mgr. Gabriel Roche, Bishop of Tuticorin ; Mgr. Angelo Pcrugini: Mgr. Chapponlie, Secretary of the French Bishops; Prince Don Aspereno Colonna, Prince Assistant at the Pontifical Throne, with his wife; Mgr. Thomas McDormel, Director General of the Propagation of the Faith in the U.S.A.; Fr. Coussa, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for the editing of the Codex of Oriental Canon Law; Superior General of the Religious of Our Lady of the Cenacic; Superior General of the Dominican Sisters of Newcastle: Mr. A. Maixner, Czechoslovakian Envoy to the Holy See, with his wife and son; Dr. Maurice Nabuca, Ambassador to the Holy See from Brazil ; Ambassador Adrian Nieuwenauys and his wife; M. SPECIAL AUDIENCES. The Holy Father has received in special audience recently, Superiors General of the Sisters of the Resurrection, the Sisters of Our Lady of Dereliction; Fr. Szerinski, 0.F.M., Definitor General the Directors of the Pontifical work of the Propaganda of the Faith and of St. Peter the Apostle for native clergy, headed by Archbishop Constantine Secretary of Propaganda Fide, and among the Bishops included in the audience was Mgr. Attipetty, Archbishop of Verapoly; Mr. Charles Hatgrove ; Miss Helen Kissane; the Holy Father also received in general audience a group of officers and men of the American Navy; a group of newlymarried couples, and a number of boys and girls after their first Holy Communion, with their parents, and more than 3,000 officials, soldiers and students.
APPOINTMENTS. The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Carlo Salotti, Cardinal Protector of the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose Mother House is in Dublin; and Mgr. Enrico Dante, Prefect of the Pontifical e;eremonies, in succession to the late Mgr. Reepighi.
THE GENERAL CHAPTER of the Congregation of the Resurrection of Otte Lord Jesus Christ elected on June 19. as their new Superior General, Fr. John Mix. Er. John Mix, who was born in Chicago, El., in 1900, studied at the Gregorian University in Rome and was Rector of the House of Philosophy and Theology at St. Louis.
• AFRICA KING CHARLES LEO Peter Mutara Rudahigwa of Ruanda (Congo) was invested with the insignia of Grand Officer of the Order of St. Gregory the Great, bestowed on him by the Pope at the hands of Archbishop Dellepiane, the Apostolic Delegate to the Belgian Congo. Fifty native chiefs, the Queen, the Queen Mother, and the neighbouling non-Catholic King of Urundi, were among the 20,000 people who attended the ceremony in thc stadium at Kabgayi. The country, wheel has a population of 5,000.000, was formerly a German possession and was entrusted to Belgium after the 1914-18 war.

LOUVAIN UNIVERSITY has for the first time given a degree in Thomist Philosophy to a woman. She is Mademoiselle Suzanne Mansion, of Liege.
BRAZIL MGR. SCIIERER, Archbishop of Portalegro, during the commemoration of the Papal encyclicals of Pope Leo XIII and 'Pope Pius XI, reminded Catholics that they were forbidden to collaborate, directly or indirectly, with Communism; be also rebuked supportere of capitaliem who would not in any way identify that economic system with Christian doctrine.
CHINA THE FIRST Catholic Press Convention in China organised by the Acting Secretary of the Press Section of the Synodal Commission of China, Fr. N. ealaestrini of the Milan Foreign ''Mission Society, under the direction of His Excellency, Archbishop A. Riberi, Internuncio to China, brought over thirty delegates representing nearly all of China's Catholic editors together recently for important discussions.
FRANCE CARDINAL ROQUES, Archbishop of Rennes, has been appointed by the Pope Papal Legate for the National Eucharistic Congress, which is to take place at Nantes from July 2 to .6. THE WORLD CONGRESS on the Family and Population opened in Paris on Monday last, June 23.
