Requiem for an Editor

Michael de la Bedoyere was a forerunner of Pope John. He emphasised what Pope John came to emphasise: the need to open windows in the Church.

Concelebrating the Mass with Archbishop Roberts were Fr. Martin D'Arcy, S.J., Fr. Desmond Ford, S.J., Fr. Bernard Parkin, S.J. and Fr. Peter Blake, S.J.
The lessons were read by Iwo of Michael de la Bedoyere's sons, Giles and Quintin.
Among others who attended the Mass were Michael de la Bedoyere's widow and children and former colleagues including W. J. Igoe, Andrew Boyle, Barney Keelan, Hugh Kay and Otto Herschen, now managing director of the newspaper. Readers' tributes Page 5.
