NEW TOWNS ADD 20,000 TO DIOCESE

1-'new towns and several housing estates have increased the Catholic population of the Brentwood diocese by about 20,000. said Bishop Beck when he addressed the diocesan branch of the Catholic Women's League at its annual meeting last week at Brentwood. Before the war the estimated Catholic population of the diocesewhich consists of the county of Essex-was about 51.000.
Thanking the guild for a gift of £171 for his ecclesiastical education fund, the Bishop urged the members to foster vocations, its greatest need.
More than 550 members. from all the 30 C.W.L. sections. attended the meeting and heard an address by the national president, the Hon. Mrs. Douglas Woodruff.
