Boys win prize for animation about soft metal

NIALL HOGAN, aged 14 and James Redlaff, aged 13, both students at St Mary’s Catholic High School in Menston, West Yorkshire, have won a national competition run by the Copper Development Association. Competitors were asked to create a video about the use of copper in everyday life.
Niall and James received first prize for their amusing animation highlighting copper’s antimicrobial properties when used in hospital operating theatres.
The tagline “It’s a Miracle! No... it’s copper” particularly amused the judges. Both boys won prizes of £50 each, sponsored by the European Copper Institute, and the school received £500 to support further extra-curricular science activities.
