Catholic sixth form colleges to be awarded beacon status

TWO CATHOLIC sixth form colleges have been awarded Beacon status.
Holy Cross College, Bury, and Loreto College, Manchester, have been recognised as outstanding and will be presented with a Beacon Award in London.
Such awards have been made to just 13 of the country’s 98 sixth forms. Of these, four have been made to Catholic sixth form colleges.
This means that a quarter of Catholic sixth form colleges have been acknowledged for their exemplary success.
A spokesman for the Catholic Education Service said: “At a time of much proposed change in education for 14-19 year olds, it is an enormous boost to note the conspicuous success of Catholic sixth form colleges. Given that only 13 colleges have been awarded such status nationally, it is a real achievement for Catholic education that four of these are Catholic colleges.
