NEW CHAPTER TO WENDOVER LIFE STORY

TEN YEARS AGO the Catholics of Wendover, near Aylesbury. Bucks.. had no church and Mass was said in the old Public Hall and later in a small temporary chapel. But last Saturday Bishop Parker of Northampton laid the foundation stone of a new church which should be completed this autumn.
The new church. dedicated to St. Anne, will cost £8,500. Surrounding gardens and car park will cost a further £1,500. The style will be traditional and simple. Local Prestwood brick will be used, with dark brown facings. The architect is Mr. A. H. Archard.
The parish of Wendover is served by Dutch Fathers of the Sacred Heart from Great Missenden. During the war, Sisters of Charity who were evacuated from Ealing ran a school for Wendover children. At Saturday's celebration, three of them returned to Wendover, and told a reporter that they were writing a book about the happy time they had running the war-time school.
