SANCTION FOR SENIOR SCHOOL AT ST. DUNSTAN'S At the meeting of the City of Birmingham Education Committee held on May 18, sanction was given to build a senior elementary at St. Dunstan's, King's Heath, instead of The English Martyrs, Sparkhill. Great efforts have been made in Sparkhill to find a suitable site, thirteen sites were viewed by the parish priest in three weeks and in all about thirty different sites were considered. The site of the present school in Sparkhill is not sufficiently extensive to allow for the building of separate Junior and Senior schools. It was therefore decided, subject to the approval of the Education Committee, to transfer the school to the neighbouring parish of St.. Dunstanslaingas Heath. The Rev. A. L. Kelly, parish priest of St. Dunstan's, intends to go ahead with the preparation of the plans with all speed so that building will commence within the shortest possible statutory period. Detailed plans were prepared some time ago for church, school, presbytery, parish hall and school playground, for all of which there is ample room on the one site, but progress has been delayed owing to the earlier adverse decision of the Education Committee about the school. The accumulation of the necessary funds has been going on apace and there Is a sum of about £6,000 in hand towards the building costs. 75 per cent. of the cost of the senior school will be met by the Education Committee.
