Priest ordained in Southwark named Bishop

Mgr. Anthony Konings, a Dutch priest who ha,s been appointed Bishop of Keta on the Gold Coast in succession to Liverpool born Bishop Holland — who resigned on account of ill-health—was ordained in 1935 at the Southwark diocesan seminary, St. John's, Wonersh.
He studied first at St. Joseph's College, Mill Hill, then at the Hastings college of the Society of African Missions, which he joined in 1933. Aged 43, the Bishop elect was Vicar General to Bishop Holland. Another new missionary Bishopelect, Mgr. Jean David, a French priest, appointed Vicar Apostolic of Majunga. Madagascar, is one of a family of 14 brothers and sisters. Two of his brothers like him are Holy Ghost Fathers.
Mgr. Peter Kobayashi, the new Bishop of Sendai, is the brother of two former Generals in the Imperial Japanese Army.
He was one of a hand of Japanese priests praised recently by Bishop Van Bekkum, Vicar Apostolic of Ruteng, for saving the missions in Indonesia during the war. He was a missionary for two years on the Island of Celebes.
