The Order of Christian Unity is an inter-denominational association.
Concerned at the rise of venereal disease among young people and at the increase in schoolgirl abortions, the Order feels that sex education must be orientated towards marriage and that it must include the Christian ideals of moral responsibility, self-respect and genuine love as an alternative to promiscuity and sexual experimentation.
Parish to mark centenary
A parish in the Middlesbrough diocese is to celebrate its centenary this year in a big way. St. Joseph's, Stokesley, North Yorkshire, starts with a two week mission in March, followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop McClean on the centenary day, May 13.
There will be Masses later in the summer in the ruins of Mount Grace Priory, Osmotherley, formerly in the parish, and at Rievaulx Abbey.
Visits will be paid to St. Margaret Clitherow's house in York in October and to the Catholic recusant area of Ugthorpe, near Whitby, in November. A parish dinner will end celebrations in December.
To mark the centenary the parish has published a 36-page history telling of the survival of the Catholic Faith in the area after the Reformation.
Iiishop McClean, who has given the booklet his imprimatur, calls it a "very striking story." It was written by a parishioner, Mr. David Allen, 41, an executive at I.C.I., Billingham. The book was first suggested by Fr. Peter Storey, who was parish priest until last week when his brother, Fr. Anthony Storey, formerly chaplain at Hull University, took over.
