Buckfast blow PARENTS AT THE threatened Buckfast Abbey prep school failed last Friday to obtain an injunction preventing further steps towards the school's closure.
With a further hearing pending next month, the school's trustees have remained silent, except to express their sadness at the "misrepresentations and inaccuracies in recent media reports".
Carey evidence THE ARCHBISHOP OF Canterbury, Dr George Carey, is to appear before a Commons select committee on 26 April, to be asked to give evidence over the k800 million losses incurred by the Church Commissioners in property deals.
Temple Reprieve HINDUS OF THE Hare Krishna movement demonstrated last week against the threatened closure of their temple shrine, Bhaktivedanta Manor at Letchrnore Heath in Hertfordshire.
The manor was donated to the controversial movement by the ex-Beatle George Harrison.
Papal Paisley THE RENT IAN Paisley, the Ulster Democratic Unionist Leader, last week managed for the first time in his life to please both Catholics and
Protestants. • Advocating St Patrick's day as a public holiday in Northern Ireland, he said this would "please the Catholics because they thought the saint belonged to them. But Protestants would be delighted; they knew St Patrick was a Protestant and a Brit".
Awake Wakefield MORE THAN 30 CHURCHES from 8 different denominations are taking part in a huge Christian festival in Wakefield this April. Wild Geese AN INNER-CITY Anglican priest, Fr Derek Sawyer, has turned his vicarage garden into a nature reserve and part of the churchyard into a city farm. Taking his inspiration from bird-lover Francis of Assisi, the priest has more than 100 swans, geese, ducks and hens on "God's Acre".
Long Night AN ALL-NIGHT VIGIL in support of the family was held at St Aloysius Church, London NW1 last Friday night. A 5am Mass to end the vigil, organised by the Cardinal's Continuing Committee • for the Caribbean Community, was celebrated by Fr 1-larcourt Blackett from Barbados.
Church rebuilt ST ANSELM AND St Cecilia Church in Kingsway, London, which was damaged by fire on Christmas day 1992, was this week re-opened by a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Hume.
