Liverpool's march of hope

by Joanna Moorhead ABOUT 2,500 Christians celebrated Pentecost last weekend with a two-cathedral ecumenical service in Liverpool.
The event, entitled "Come Holy Spirit", began with a service at the city's Anglican cathedral at which the Revd Martin Reardon, general secretary of Churches Together in England, preached the sermon.
The congregation then processed along Hope Street, the road which connects the Anglican cathedral with its Catholic counterpart, with many groups carrying brightlycoloured banners. At the head of the procession were Archbishop Derek Worlock, Anglican Bishop David Sheppard and Merseyside's Free Church Moderator Dr John Newton.
At Metropolitan Cathedral members of local ecumenical projects explained how church unity works in practice, and Archbishop Worlock led prayers and gave the blessing.
