Canon Oliver Kelly, the administrator of Westminster Cathedral, announced at the weekend that he would advertise for a new Master of Music to replace Mr Colin Mawby who has been on sabbatical leave since the beginning of 1977.
1 he uncertainty over the future of the choir, the choir school and the liturgical organisation of the Cathedral meant there was some doubt as to whether a new appointment would be made. Cardinal Hume commented: "I want on this occasion to pay public tribute to Colin Mawby for the many years of service he has given to the Cathedral and its music . . . I confidently expect and hope that he will continue to make his contribution to the liturgical and musical life of the Church in a new environment."
