The commission will examine the conclusions reached by the individual

committees—the ten preparatory commissions set up by Pope John in his Motu Proprio of Whit Sunday—and will decide on the final version of all documents connected with the Council. It will present these to the Holy Father for his ruling as to what should be dealt with by the Council.
Five of the Cardinals (Tisserant. Muench, Larraona,Hien, and Heard) arc curial Cardinals. The others are Cardinals who head the Bishops' Conferences of their re spective countries, together with Cardinals from those nations where the Bishops' Conferences arc not headed by a Cardinal. Where there are no Bishops' Conferences one authoritative member of the Hierarchy has been named to represent his nation.
Other prelates have been chosen to speak for very vast territories, such as Cardinal Rugambwa for East and Central Africa.
Three appointments from behind the Iron Curtain arc Cardinal Wyszynski, Primate of Poland; Archbishop GrOsz of Kalocsa, Hungary; and Archbishop Ujcic of Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
CANADA
Among appointments from Commonwealth countries arc: Cardinal McGuigan, Archbishop of Toronto, Canada; Cardinal Gilroy, Archbishop of Sydney, Australia; Cardinal Leger, Archbishop of Montreal, Canada; Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay, India; Archbishop Ryan, O.P., of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad; Archbishop Cooray, 0.M.1., of Colombo, Ceylon; Archbishop McKeefry of Wellington, New Zealand; Archbishop Graner, C.S.C.. of Dacca, Pakistan; and Archbishop .Hurley, 0.M.1., of Durban, South Africa.
The four Eastern-rite Patriarchs are: Mgr. Stephanos I Sidarouss (Alexandria of the Copts); Mgr. Maximos IV Saigh (Antioch of the Melkites); Mgr. Paul Pierre Meouchi (Antioch of the Maronites); and Mgr. Paul II Cheikho (Babylonia of the Chaldaeans).

The growth of the Church in mission countries in Asia and Africa is represented by appointments such as those of Cardinal Tien, the exiled Archbishop of Peking, China; Cardinal Tatsuo Doi, Archbishop of Tokyo, Japan; Cardinal Santos, Archbishop of Manila Philippines; Archbishop Rakotomalala of Tananarive, Madagascar; Archbishop Yago of Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Bishop Ng6-dinh-Th0c, Vicar Apostolic of Vinh-Long, Vietnam; and Bishop Soegijapranata, S.J., Vicar Apostolic of Semarang, Java.
The three religious superiors on the commission are: Dom Benno Gut, O.S.B., Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Confederation; Fr. Agostini Sepinski, O.F.M., Minister General of the Franciscans; and Fr. J. B. Janssens, S.J., General of the Jesuits.
