HOLIDAY JOURNEY
pig some people, Belgium means gabled houses, classical Flemish painting and good food. Others may think first of the bustling modernity of Brussels or Antwerp, or else of the tranquility of the canals and haunting flat landscapes of Flanders.
But there is even more to Belgium than all of this. in a new book introducing Belgium, by Michael Winch (Methuen. 30s.), the reader is taken on a tour covering every part of the country from the sand dunes of Ostend to the forests and valleys of the Ardennes.
The author knows the country well enough to be able to sketch the .differing characters of the modern cities and towns and their people and their history.
Mr. Winch is an easy travelling companion, with many amusing stories about the places he has visited. There are Rood suggestions for those who may wish to follow the routes he has taken.
