Seventh missioner takes the road

THE new Westminster Travelling Mission takes to the road this week.
On Sunday, the first travelling missioner, Fr. Peter Geraerts, will say Mass at 9 a.m. in the Village Hall it Ashwell, Herts.
His mission car can take six passengers useful for picking up children and elderly people who live in outlying farms and hamlets.
Early this month Fr. Gerwaerts started to seek out those Catholics in Hertfordshire who live in villages so far from their parish churches that the people cannot regularly get to Mass and the sacraments.
Fr. Gcracrts is "based" at 281 Bedwell Crescent, Stevenage, but he needs to find and furnish a permanent headquarters. The Mission needs church furniture, it needs to support one priest now-maybe more later. It has to run and maintain a Car.
So far. all the parishes which lie east of the Great North Road have been visited and Mass will now be said at intervals in Ashwell Village (parish of Baldock) and Stanstead Abhotts (parish of Ware). This may soon be extended to Cufficy and Breachwood Green.
The missioner hopes to spend at least three days prior to a Sunday in any given locality so that he will he able to visit people in their homes and give them the opportunity of weekday Mass.
There are six other travelling missions-in Southwark. Brentwood, Shrewsbury. Northampton, Nottingham and Menevia.
