Gregorian celebrates its fourth centenary
THE Holy Father returned to -IRome for the second time last week from Castel Gandolfo to receive in audience the superiors, professors and students of the Pontifical Gregorian University, which has been celebrating the 400th anniversary of its foundation by St. Ignatius.
On the occasion of the centenary His Holiness sent a special autographed letter to the Rector, Fr. Peter Abelian, S.J., in which he remarks that 40 colleges for secular clergy and 80 religious orders and congregations of all nationalities send students to this university.
The university, the Pope says, presents "a living picture of the unity and universality of the Catholic Church."
Moreover. no fewer than 13 Popes have studied within its halls, as well as numerous Cardinals and Bishops.
Many saints and bcati, says the Pope, have passed through the university, including a former Rector, St. Robert Bellarmine.
Arrests in Kenya
Three men have been arrested in connection with an attack on the Catholic mission at Barichi. Kenya. in which two nuns were killed and another injured.
