Catholics grace the

Queen's Honours By CECILIA BROMLEYMARTIN AcN 87-YEAR-OW priest is one of a number of atholics to receive an award in the Queen's birthday Honours List, which was announced this week.
The Very Rev Fr Robert Andrew Mackillop was awarded an MBE for 67 years as a volunteer observer for the Meteorological Office in Inverness-Shire.
Sr Pauline Fenton, who works at St Michael and Martin's Primary School in Hounslow, Middlesex, received an OBE for services to the community, including hospital visits and work for the poor.
"God really is a God of surprises," she told the Herald. "I was totally bowled over by receiving such an honour. It's just wonderful."
John Bird, editor of the Big Issue magazine, received an MBE for services to the homeless. A spokesman for Mr Bird said that he was pleased to accept the honour, "however the fight to expose indifferent thinking and cynical disregard of homeless people will continue irre
spective of its source."
Mrs Margaret McDougall Jane of St Columba's RC High School in Dunfermline, Mrs Eleanor Drennan, headteacher of St David's RC Primary School in Renfrewshire and Mrs Elizabeth Rice, vice-principal of Aquinas College in Stockport, were all awarded the MBE for services to education. "I am delighted to receive the honour as a member of an all too often undervalued profession," said Mrs Rice.
MBEs were also awarded to George Leverage, MC to the RC Cathedral of East Anglia, and Fr Dermot O'Leary from Oldham.
Among Forces honours were, in the Army, Commandant Nursing Officer Jane Titley (CBE); Jerome O'Hca, (OBE); Commander John Tighe, (OBE) while MBEs were awarded to Majors BK Billsberry, MHR D'Apice, WG Fraser, PM Gibson, A Schumacher, and Colonel Jane Arigho.
In the RAF, honours included a CBE for Air Commodore ML Feenan and OBEs for Wing Cmdrs BC Cole, JK Harte and TP McDonald.
