PILGRIMS AT ST. MILDRED'S SHRINE

Pilgrims from all parts of Thanet and East Kent, including a numerous contingent from Canterbury and monks from St. Augustine's Abbey. Ramsgate, made their way to Minster on Thursday, July 15, for the annual pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Mildred.
At the service held there in the afternoon the little church. of St. Mildred was unable to contain the large congregation, which overflowed into the road outside. The officiating priest at this service was the Rev. Leonard Whatmore, M.A., of Canterbury, assisted by the Rev. Bernard Arbre and Fr. Bernard Waldron, 0.S.B., whilst the Rev. Augustine Keniry, 0.S.B., parish priest of Minster, acted as master of ceremonies.
A special sermon was preached by the Rev. Cuthbert Smith, 0.S.B., of St. Augustine's Abbey, Ramsgate, who stressed the need for sanctity in the world to-day.
The service concluded with veneration of the relic of St. Mildred and solemn Benediction, after which visits were made to Minster Abbey, the former home of the saint.
