Further evidence of Catholic parents' anxiety about the future of our schools under the Government's new proposals, and of their intention to secure just provision for their children was shown at Ruislip last week when parishioners gathered in the school for a meeting on this question.
Alderman W. Atkinson was in the chair, and on the platform were the Baroness Bosch van Drakestein (the Grail), the Hon. Mrs. Bower. Mr. lack Donovan, the Rev. E. S. Sutton, rector and rural dean, Dr. Summerbell, headmaster of the Oratory Central School, Miss Kathleen O'Connor, of the Metropolitan Catholic Teachers' Association, and Mr. John Green, headmaster of the Sacred Heart School.
The following resolution, proposed by Dr. Summerbell, and seconded by Miss Kathleen O'Connor, was carried unanimously.
" That this meeting of Ruislip Catholics, while wholeheartedly supporting the demand for educational reform, with equality of opportunity, affirms the following basic principles: "1. The education of the child is primarily the responsibility of the parents, "2. Parents have the right to send their children to schools staffed by teachers of their own Faith.
"3. It is the duty of the State. acting on behalf of parents, to provide such schools without financial -litcrimination."
Alderman Woulfe was elected chairman of the Parents' and Electors' Association formed at a meeting of parishioners at the White Fathers' Church, Heston, Middlesex, last week. Eighty people, roughly a third of the parish, attended.
The first meeting of a new Parents' Association was held on Wednesday at the Church of Our Lady of Hal, Camden Town, London.
