THOUSANDS SEEKING ADMISSION
THOUSANDS of requests have already been received at the Vatican for admission to the beatification of Pope Pius X which, it is now believed, will take place on June 3, the anniversary of the Pontiff's baptism 116 years ago,
Meeting under the presidency of the Holy Father in the Vatican on Tuesday, the Cardinals, consultors and prelate-officials of the Sacred Congregation of Rites voted on the tato decree.
A favourable result means that " it is safe to proceed ro beatification."
Some reports suggest that the ceremony will be held in St. Peter's Square instead of in the basilica and that the Pope himself will read the decree.
Pope Pius X will be the first Pontiff to be beatified since Pope Pius V on April 27, 1672.
So far, 76 Popes have been canonised.
