From Mr Mark Dowd — A number of your correspondents
(Letters, September 15) appear to have misunderstood the thrust of my closing remarks in the article entitled "The tyranny of certainty" (September 8).
I am no relativist. I believe in revealed truth, and as a Roman Catholic this allows me to state unequivocally that the fullness of God's revelation is displayed in the life, death and resurrection of his only son, Jesus Christ.
The question is not the existence of such objective truth, but the manner in which we bear witness to it. How does a belief in absolutes avoid the horrors of the Crusades, the Inquisition and the wars of religion?
In other words, how best do we love others into truth?
Yours faithfully, MARK DOWD London EC4
