New Nottingham church for the Franciscans

The foundation stone of Nottingham's new Franciscan Church, which to be dedicated to Our Lady and St. Edward, was laid by Bishop Ellis last week.
• The church will replace a school chapel which was opened by Cardinal Manning in 1886.
The Franciscan Friars Minor, returning to Nottingham after 391 years' absence, took over the chapel and the parish hi 1930.
Incorporated in the foundation stotie is a piece of stone from the Franciscan Church consecrated in 1303.
Headed by the Provincial, Fr. Justin McLoughlin, 0.F.M., friars from all the principal English friaries attended the ceremony.
At first the church will accommodate 275 people, but later the sanctuary will be moved out of the end of the nave and a new one built.
This was the 22nd foundation stone for a new church laid by Bishop Ellis.
