Catholic peacemakers win awards

six cm-Halo peacemakers were honoured with Pax Christi peace awards in London last Sunday. Bishop Malcolm McMahon of Nottingham, president of Pax Christi. presented Brian Wicker, Sister Lelia Newman OP, Patricia and Michael Pulliam. Tom Mallon and Milan Rai with the award in front of a packed audience at Pax Christi's annual general meeting. The award, given every other year since 2001, acknowledges those who have shown steadfast commitment to grassroots peace work. This year's winners have been involved in projects ranging from organising play schemes for children in Northern Ireland to peaceful protests against nuclear weapons. Pax Christi was founded in 1945 in a push to improve Franco-German relations after the Second World War. By the 1950s it bad become the International Catholic Movement for Peace. Its motto is "Reconciliation, Peace, Non-violence".
