A POET OF DISCOVERY?

Keywords: Sassoon, They

PIERS PRODIGAL IAN DAVIE. Foreword by Siegfried SOSSOOR (liarvill Press. 12s. 6d.).
IN his foreword, Siegfried ▪ Sassoon describes Ian Davie as "a poet of discovery, discoveries revealed again and again as beneficiaries of light — the light of authentic inward vision",
One reader, though not questioning the authenticity of the religious experience. found its communication suspect.
However. many readers will, with Sassoon. find these poems "moving and memorable": they will admire their "clarity and control of outline"; they will "bless the deep indictment of the murderous din and desecration which pervade our modern materialism". But they are too palely Georgian for my desiccated palate.
