Fr Gerard Carboy died on August 13 at St Joseph's Home, Newcastle, aged 76. Ordained at Ushaw College in 1929, Fr Corboy spent eight years in Si Augustine's parish, Darlington, and five years in Wallsend before becoming a Chaplain to the Forces in 1942. After the war. he returned to St Williams, Darlington as Parish priest. and later moved to lake charge of Si Augustine's in 1965 during Canon Wilkinson's illness. He became Parish priest in 1972 and retired in February this year due to ill health Fr John Greene, parish priest of Our Lady of Muswell, Muswell Hill, died on August 11. Fr Greene was burn on September 113, 'I 92 0, and ordained in 1 952 with his first appointment at Limehouse. In 1957. Ile moved to Barnet and thereafter spent terms at Edgware and Sunbury until 1972 when his work at Muswell Hill began Fr Greene suffered from arthritis. though he was known to have never complained about this and had maintained a fine sense of humour during his time there.

With her husband, Mrs Donisthorpe was a pioneer in experimental bmadcasting, and she is believed to have been the first wonere to have spoken Over the radio before the days of the BBC. Mgr Francis Callanan died on August 7th in Camberwell. He had been parish priest at the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Camberwell since 1957. Born in Ireland in 1913. Mgr Callanan was ordained at Wonersh in 1939 and served as curate at Worcester Park, Dartford and Chatham. His first appointment as Parish Priest was at Goudhurst. Kent from 1952 to 1957 After this, he took up his last post in Camberwell during which time Mgr Callanan became Diocesan Director of the Association for the Propagation of the Faith and also National Treasurer for the Pontifical missions Aid Societies. He was appointed a Papal Chaplain in 1973 in recognition of his
work for the Missions.
Cr Barnabas Sandeman OSB has rheri, ageci 70. He was born in Oxford ins ;1 June 1910, and educated at Ampleforrh and New College, Oxford. In 1932 he entered the monastic community ,at Ampleforth, taking the name of Barnabas and was ordained priest in July 1 939. Mr Anthony Rippon dind on July 24 aged 59 He had been editor of the Midland Bank group newspaper since Its creation in .1970 and a member of KEYS (Catholic Writers Guild). He was born in 1921, and worked with the Birmingham Wre411. Post and the thrminghant Mail, latO joining the Merchant Navies of England and Denmark for the duration of the War.
Afterwards he rejoined the
Birmingham Mail, this time as subeditor.
Fr J B Foley has died aged 94. He had been chaplain at the Presentation Provinciatate, Morley Road. Chaddesden, Derby since 1962. Father Foley's ministry involved him in work in Ireland. America and Australia. He returned to the Nottingham Diocese in 1937.
Professor Geoffrey W. H. Lampe, Regius Professor of Divinity in the University of Cambridge 1971 79, died on 5 August, at the age of 67. Professor Lampe was a leading Anglican theologian with special interests In ecumenical relations. He was a member of the World Council of Churches Faith and Order Commission from 1964 to 1975_ Rev Leo Swarbrick parish priest of St Wulstan. Great Harwood, since 1958, died on July 27. aged 77 He went to Fort Augustus School and then the English College. Valladolid, and was ordained priest on Easter Sunday 1935 in St Baranbas' Cathedral, Nottingham Fr Swarbrick was curate at St Vincent, Openshaw: All Saints, Wardour Castle, Wiltshire: St Peter, Middleton: and St Mary, Failswurth. From 1941 to 1946 hn was chaplain to HM Forces at home end also in India.
On returning to the Salford Diocese. Fr Swarbrick served as curate in Sacred Heart, Darwen; St Kentigern, Fallowfreld; St James, Rawtenstall; and St Wulstan, Great Harwood. After five years as curate he took over as parish priest of St Wulstan's in January 1958.
Br Terence Molyneaux FSC, former head of religious studies at De La Salle College. Hopwood Hall, Manchester died at the age of 48. Bra Terence came from Rainhill. Lancashire and joined De La Salle in 1948. He studied at St Mary's College Twickenham and taught at St Illtycfs College. Cardiff for four years.
He studied 'in Rome from 1958 to 1964 and gained a doctorate in divinity (STD). He was appointed superior of the student brothers community in Middleton in 1972 and began another spell as a lecturer at Hopwood Hall, before being made head of religious studies at Hopwood Hall in 1974. Although burdened with an Incurable disease he continued to witness by word and example to the quality of the Lord's peace.
