Wilfred Pickles Off The Record For Charity

Wilfred Pickles and Barney Colehan sacrificed their leisure on Easter Sunday evening to give an " off-the-record " show at the Town Hall at Yeadon, near Bradford, in aid of Catholic charities, which will benefit to the extent of between £150 and £200.
Among notable local people who assisted the good cause as " victims" was 66-year-old Fred Farrar of Rawdon, former Hunslet and England Rugby League three-quarter.
" What's thy medal, Fred " asked Wilfred. Fred replied that it Was a medal all Rugby League players hoped to win, hut that only a few succeeded in doing so.
It was the Rugby League Challenge Cup Medal. Fred had played for England in many countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
Another supporter was Mrs. Stephenson, aged 74, of Yeadon, a former actress. who went on the stage at the age of four. She " had a go " at music-hall tunes, and danced a lively jig.
The " Have-a-go" formed the second part of a variety concert by the Godfrey Brothers, the Gaunt Brothers, Fay Lenore, Frederick Noble, Violet Carson, and Bert Rich,
