LADYWELL Printing Press of the Ladywell Convent, in Godalming, Surrey, headquarters of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, has taken on a vital new apostolate.
Fr Anthony Churchill, press officer of the Bishops' Conference, tells me that the Ladywell Press, previously run by the order, has become the official printing house for the Bishops Conference of England and Wales and is now an integral part of the enlarged Catholic Media Office.
Mgr George Leonard, coordinator of Catholic Media Services presided at the special Mass Co mark the new beginning at Ladywell. Concelebrants included Mgr Vincent Nichols, general secretary of the Bishops' Conference, Mgr David Norris, former general secretary, Mgr James Hook, director of the
Catholic Media Office and Fr Anthony Churchill, press officer.
The Mass was attended by Sisters from several houses of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood.
In his address at the opening Mass Mgr Leonard said "We are to create together a missionary enterprise, a gospel initiative to enable the printed word to spread the truth about Jesus Christ." Sr Gabriella, superior general of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, said that her order saw the new venture as a vital area of the apostolate.
Arid so it is, with three offset litho presses and two letterpress printing machines which can undertake all the printing requirements of the Bishops' Conference and its various committees.
I HA VE not come across as attractive a new prayer book for a long time as that compiled by Mgr Michael Buckley entitled "The Treasury of the Holy Spirit", published by Hodder and Stoughton, £3.95. Arguably one of the major prayer books of the past ten years, it would make a good present, but you probably won't want to part with your copy. I was glad to be reminded of "Bona Mors", which I had forgotton about , and at my age too!
