The Church and rhythm method research

ON the question of a fund needed to study the Rhythm Method (July 7) the Church is leading the way, Hierarchy and clergy in this country and New Zealand have given financial support to research projects likely to advance.. knowledge in making this method more reliable, and more acceptable.
It is up to the doctors and scientists to put forward projects and carry out the research. (The present project should identify the "infertile" days in the pre-ovulatory phase.) This is vital as it ensures acceptance of rhythm planning by outside bodies and this stimulates interest.
It is almost entirely due to the years of painstaking research by Professor John Marshall in the CMAC that birth regulation using Basal Body Temperature has now been accepted as scientifically accurate. One looks forward to similiar investigations regarding the use of "symptomology" or the Billings method. However reliability in any method of planning is not sufficient in itself; mutual acceptability. motivation. a good relationship between the partners also plays its part.
The Family Research Trust will he looking at all facets of family life which constantly interact upon its members and serve to further the relationships or vice versa.
