Catholic doctor
BISHOP CORMAC Murphy-O'Connor of Arundel and Brighton and Bishop Philip Harvey in North London are to concelebrate Mass at the Guild of Catholic Doctors' Symposium and Annual General Meeting, which will be held on April 11-13 at the University of Sussex, Brighton. The Guild's Symposium will focus on the question "ls the Catholic Doctor Really Necessary?"
Charitable boys
BOYS FROM St Thomas the Apostle School, Nunhead, South London, have collected over £1,300 which was spent on hampers for the needy and elderly of the area. Money was raised through sponsored activities such as football, crosscountry running, swimming and spelling.
Child care
THE COUNCIL of the Catholic Children's Society, Westminster, Crusade of Rescue, have appointed a new Director of the Society, with effect from March 1. Mr Anthony Meredith has many years' experience as a Probation Officer, as a Child Care Officer, and has spent two years in North Africa where he worked with the French Franciscans in community projects in the Sahara region.
St Pat's Day
THE BISHOPS' Conference of England and Wales has called on Catholics in both countries to observe St Patrick's Day, March 17, as a special day of prayer for peace in Northern Ireland. The Bishops' Committee for International Justice and Peace has prepared a leaflet with a special set of prayers to be used at Mass.
Good old boys
TWO DISTINGUISHED old boys of Ratcliffe Catholic College have been honoured by Cambridge University. Sir Neal Moynihan, has been the Chairman of Save the Children Fund in recent years. Sir Gordon Reece is a noted figure in financial circles. Both men have been elected Associate Fellows to their Cambridge College, Downing.
Silver Jubilee
CARDINAL BASIL Hume attended the prize-giving ceremony held last Monday at Cardinal Bourne School in Hoddersdon, Herts, to mark the ,school's Silver Jubilee.
Marriage not trivial
BISHOP AUGUSTINE Harris of Middlesbrough said in a pastoral letter to be read 'throughout his diocese on Sunday that Catholics must stand up to those who "deride or trivialise" marriage, an institution that is essential to the well-being of society.
