HUGH ROSS! FOR STROUD GREEN

IN the County Council elections last week, Mr. Ted Castle, journalist husband of Mrs. Barbara Castle, M.P., lost his seat to a Catholic solicitor, Mr. Hugh Rossi.

majority of 454 over Mr. Castle who had held the Stroud Green division of Hornscy (Middlesex) at the last election with a majority of 1,444. He is an old boy of Finchley Catholic Grammar School.
RE-ELECTED
At Poplar, East London, Coon. J. 13rannigan, who was made a Knight of St. Gregory last year for his services to the Church, was re-elected to the London County Council. He studied for a time at the Catholic Workers' College, Oxford. He has been 12 years on the London County Council, serving on the Education and Child Welfare Com mi t tees. Coun. Neil Muldoon, a parishioner of the church of Our Lady of Muswell Hill, North London, retained his seat as Conservative member of the Muswell Hill division of Ilornsey.
Coun. I. Keen, an old boy of the Salesian College, Battersea, topped the poll for Labour at Southwark. He was Mayor of Southwark, 1953-54, and is a governor of several Catholic schools.
Mrs. Priscilla M. L. MaeMullen,
mother of six and a parishioner of St. Peter's, Budleigh Selterton, was elected to Devon County Council with a majority of 463.
Mr. G. May was re-elected to the Hampshire County Council (Kingslere division), and Mrs. Alice King, a parishioner of the church of Our Lady Immaculate, Limehouse, was re-elected to the London County Council (Stepney Division). Also elected to the L.C.C. in the Stepney Division was Mr. Cyril Bird, a parishioner of the English Martyrs Church, Tower Hill.
