by Viviane Hewitt in Rome JESUITS in Rome embarrassed the Holy See this week with a public announcement that Pope John Paul II had secretly recognised 20 Chinese bishops from the country's "Patriotic Church" which has rejected links with Rome in favour of loyalty to the communist authorities.
