Bruno Walter and Mahler

An overwhelming reception was given to Bruno Walter after his rendering of Mahler's 1st Symphony with the B.B.( . Symphony Orchestra at the Festival Hall last Sunday.
This was the second of a series of seven B.B.C. concerts at which Beethoven's and Bruckner's 9th Symphonies, and Mozart's Requiem Mass are among the works to he performed. Under Dr. Walter's baton, with which he infinitely controlled every note and phrase the B.B.C. Orchestra played as one rarely hears thens play; all Mahler's bizarreness and irony. his deep romanticism and anguishing inner conflicts and triumphs were vividly portrayed. L. H.
