Eucharistic Congress in Munich
THE 37th International Eucharistic Congress due to take place in Munich in 1960, has been tentatively planned for July 29 to August 5 that year.
The dates have been approved by the international committee for the Congress.
The theme of the Congress will be " For the Life of the World," states Auxiliary Bishop Neuhaeusler of Munich. He is directing arrangements for the gathering on behalf of Cardinal Wendel, Archbishop of Munich and Freising.
More than 1.000,000 pilgrims from all over the world are expected to attend.
The first three days of the Congress will be devoted to international study meetings. The Papal Legate to the gathering will be received on the fourth day.
Special devotions for the persecuted Church will he held during the Congress. On the eve of the closing day there will be a huge candlelight procession. On the closing day itself there will be a solemn High Mass during which a Papal message will be read.
The 1960 Congress will be the second held in Germany. The first was in Cologne in 1909. The last International Eucharistic Congress was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1955.
