NEW AIRPORT FOR LOURDES CENTENARY?

ANEW /100,000 airport to cope with the greatly increased number of direct flights expected in 1958. the centenary year of Our Lady's apparitions, is being considered by officials in Lourdes.
The town is at present served by a small airport near Tarbes, about nine miles away.
On October 13, a Trans-World Airline Constellation is due to leave New York with 60 pilgrims on board and to land at Lourdes the next day-the first direct transAtlantic flight to Lourdes.
The usual route from the U.S.A. is a flight to Paris and then an overnight train journey.
Some offitials believe that some 3,000.000 people will go to Lourdes in 1958.
A great deal of work is already in hand, including improved facilities at the baths and more hotel and hostel accommodation.
A new film on St. Bernadette, to be released as part of the centenary celebrations, has also been announced this week.
