C.Y.M.S. URGE LABOUR LEADER
A request that he should make an appeal to Tito for the release of the imprisoned Archbishop Stepinac has been sent from the National Executive of the C.Y.M.S. to Mr. Morgan Philips, secretary of the Labour Party, and member of the party's delegation to Yugoslavia.
The message was passed as a resolution at an Executive meeting in Liverpool on Saturday last.
" As a member of the British Parliamentary delegation shortly to visit Yugoslavia with the object of establishing friendlier relations between the British and Yugoslav people," says the message. " may we enlist your cooperation and aid to make a personal appeal to Marshal Tito for the release of Archbishop Stepinac?
REPRESENTATIONS " You are no doubt aware that the Catholic authorities in this country have made the strongest possible representations against the arrest, trial and life imprisonment of Archbishop Stepinac. This protest has been supported by millions of men of goodwill far beyond our own body.
" My society of 30,000 members, with affiliated organisations in the Commonwealth and in Europe, earnestly request you to appeal personally to Marshal Tito, for the good of his own people for the removal of a foul blot on the fair name of a noble race. in reparation for the outrage done to the right of man and the honour of the Catholic Church, that this great priest may he restored to his people.
" Such an action, by Marshal Tito, we are convinced, is an imperative and essential first step in his efforts to achieve friendly relations with the freedom loving people of the Western Democracies."
