Shortage of greens

AMERICAN golfers are having a bad time since they were walloped out of sight in the Ryder Cup. Understandably the British, having been humiliated for so many years, like to imagine they have wiped the slate somewhat cleaner and don't want to be reminded that it's now a European team.
Maybe the Irish feel the same. A local officianado at Portmarnock — Ireland not Scotland — listened to me with sympathy as I chronicled my pathetic efforts the day before and my three lost balls.
"Listen" said he, "if you want to know how well you played you should have watched the Americans who were there the same day. Some o' them can't even hit the ball fur enough to lose it".
