FORTY HOURS' DEVOTION At Our Lady and St. Joseph's, Hanwell, the Forty Hours' devotion closed on Sunday morning with Mass of deposition, but solemn exposition again took place in the evening. The local clergy were assisted by Fr. Cunningham, Ph.D., of Preston. According to Roman custom, there were
no flowers on the altar. Watching was maintained throughout both nights.
SHOP ASSISTANTS' CHAPLAIN Fr. R. More O'Ferrell, assistant priest at The Assumption, Warwick Street. has been appointed chaplain to the Guild of Catholic Shop Assistants, Warchouseinen. and Clerks.
NIGHT WATCHING The night watching, which has been a regular feature for over eighty years. was again well supplied by the men of Holy Trinity, Brook Cireen, during the Forty Hours' prayer which closed on Tuesday morning. For the exposition and deposition Mass Fr. L. Fletcher was celebrant, assisted by Frs. Anderson and MacEachen (Glasgow).
NINE VETERANS CONFIRMED Nine veterans of both sexes. all in the region of 80 years of age, were confirmed by the Archbishop of Westminster in the chapel of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Stoke Newington, on Sunday.
The Archbishop visited the sick and infirm patients who were unable to participate in the general welcome, and gave to each a message of cheer and his blessing.
MISSIONS FROM MILL HILL Fr. Patrick Downey, of St. Joseph's Foreign Missionary Society. Mill Hill, made an appeal on behalf of the missions at the church of the English Martyrs', Streatham, S.W., on Sunday. The society he said, was founded on St. Joseph's day, 1866, by Fr. Herbert Vaughan. To-day there were over five hundred priests, seven hundred and twenty students, ten missionary colleges, and more than half a million converts from paganism in foreign lands.

Wednesday, November 6. Presides at the annual meeting and exhibition of work of the Southwark branch of the Catholic Needlework Guild at Notre Dame CODvent, Southwark, at 3.30.
Thursday. November 7. Visitation and confirmation at Tunbridge Wells.
Friday, November 8. Visitation of the Visitation convent, Weimer.
Sunday. November 10. Visitation and confirmation at Mongcham in the morning. Visitation and confirmation at Hersden in the evening.
ANNUAL REQUIEM FOR DECEASED CLERGY
The annual requiem Mass for the dcceased bishops and priests, secular and regular, who have at any time worked in the Southwark diocese, invariably draws a large number of priests to St. George's cathedral, and each year the congregation increases. This year the bishop will sing the Mass. in the presence of the chapter, at 11 o'clock on Tuesday. November 5. The singing of the priests at this Mass bears eloquent testimony to the great strides that the singing of plainchant has made in the diocese.
DIRECTOR WELCOMED AT BEULAH H ILL A formal welcome was given to their new director, the Rev. Bro. Simon, by the boys of St. Joseph's College, Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood, on Saturday, on the occasion of his feast day.
Bro. Simon, who has just come from Southsca, where he was director for many years, was presented with an address expressing the hope that his stay at St. Joseph's would be as prosperous as that at St. John's, Southsca, where he was responsible for many improvements.
C'ONC'ERT TO AID STREATHAM PARISH HALL The Children of Mary attached to English Martyrs', Streatham, gave a concert party entitled " March Hares last week, proceeds going to the funds of the parish hall, Prentis Road, Streatham.
