POPULAR SHEFFIELD PRIEST RETIRES After 51 Years' Work in City

From Oitr OltM Correspondent STIEFFTEI,D.
Forty-nine years as priest-incharge of the same parish is the record of the Rev. George IL Bradley, who retired this week
from his mission of St. Wilfrid's, Sheffield. As for two years prior to coming to St. Wilfrid's Fr. Bradley was a curate at St. Mark's, Sheffield, he has spent more than 50 years of his priesthood in the city. He was born in Leeds nearly eighty years ago, and after studying at Ushaw College and St. Joseph's Seminary, Leeds, he was ordained at St. Joseph's in 1886 by Bishop Cornthwaite. Fr. Bradley's first appointment was to St. Mary's, Bradford, and after three years in that parish he was sent to assist Canon Waishaw at St. Marie's, Sheffield, in 1885. In 1891 lie was appointed parish priest of St. Wilfrid's in succession to Canon Glover.
The unceasing growth of the city has vastly extended St. Wilfrid's Catholic population; and Fr. Bradley has seen his parish eventually include two new housing estates.
During his fifty years in the city Fr. Bradley's unassuming manner and quiet zeal have endeared him to many thousands both inside his parish and throughout Sheffield, as was well demonstrated when he celebrated his golden Jubilee on October 28th, 1936.
On that occasion a large hall was engaged for his jubilee presentations, but it was not sufficiently large to accommodate the many priests and people who wished to show their appreciation and esteem.
