Head of Rosminians dies suddenly
ASUPERIOR General who. during the second World War was imprisoned for his protests at Fascist misrule in North Italy, died sudden!) in Rome on Sunday. He was Fr. Guiseppe Bozzetti, of the Institute of Charity, better known in Britain as " Rosminians."
Fr. Bozzetti's secretary telephoned the English Provincial, Fr. Cuthbert Emery, at Wonersh, Surrey, on. Sunday afternoon to say that the Superior General had had a heart attack and had been rushed to a hospital in Rome. Just one hour later he telephoned again to say that Fr. Bozzetti was dead.
Fr. Bozzetti was the son of one of Garibaldi's Generals.
He was educated at the Royal Military Academy in Naples, from which he passed on to the University of Pavia. There he took a degree in letters, another in law and, after becoming a religious, still another in philosophy. After his ordination he became President of the Collegin MellerioRosmini in Domodossola, then master of novices at Monte Calve rio in the same town, and later was made Provincial of the province of North Italy. In 1935 he was elected Superior General of the Institute of Charity.
Recognised
Fr. Bozzetti was recognised as the foremost exponent of Rosminian thought in Italy. wrote much about Rosmini. the founder. and lectured at the University of Rome. In addition he was widely read in law, history, art and English literature. After the government of his order and of the Sisters of Providence. his main preoccupation in life was to procure a wider and juster estimate of Rosmini, and it was largely due to his inspiration that last year at Stresa an international congress was held at which some 300 delegates from many parts of the world met to .discuss Rosmini. • During his tenure of office, the central house at Porta Latina was founded and foreign missions were undertaken in Tanganyika. A journey through the missionary country of Tanganyika at the age of 74 was typical of his serene performance of the next duty to he done. He made it his business to know personally all his subjects, and his death is an immense loss to his order.
