Nottingham's Quincentenary

During the past week Nottingham has been celebrating the quincentenary of the granting of the Charter of Henry VI, who gave it self-government and made it into a county, together with 500 years of civic and industrial progress.
A more serious note was struck on Sunday when, to remind its citizens that 500 years ago Nottingham was Catholic, utterly and completely, Mgr. Ellis, Bishop of Nottingham, celebrated a Pontifical High Mass in St. Barnabas' Cathedral. Those who attended included representatives of all religious orden who had houses in Nottingham 500 years ape.
